Games and Activities

When they arrived, I told them that the bad guys were upset that Scooby & his gang were always catching them, so they had stolen the really nice Scooby Doo birthday cake that I had brought.  Fortunately, they left clues on how to find it. Clues were written on back of various pictures of Scooby & his gang that I got from a coloring page website. Clue #1:  Your first clue can be found under something that you can slide down. (slide) Clue #2: Don't have a fit. The next clue is on something you can sit. (bench) Clue #3: Look for something that goes up and down. That's where the next clue can be found. (see-saw) Clue #4: The next clue is where you could go if you were really thirsty. (drinking fountain) Clue #5: Look for the game "Tic-Tac-Toe" and then you will know where to go!  (Tic-Tac-Toe on the play equipment) Clue #6:  The next clue can be found on something that rhymes with these words: hire, wire, fire, and liar.  (tire swing) Clue #7:  Paint over these and put them in order to reveal your next clue.  (There was an envelope under the tire swing that contained 11 pieces of paper with one word on each paper that was written in white crayon.  They each had to paint over one or two with watercolors & then put them together as a team -- they were numbered with pen to make this easy).  It said:  "Play Pin the Dog Tag on Scooby for your next clue." They played this game (I got a drawing of Scooby off a coloring page website; enlarged it, traced it, had my son color it, and made dog tags from yellow & blue construction paper.)  After prizes were awarded, I discovered an extra tag with the initials SD.  Clue was on the back. Clue #8:  Get ready to play "Musical Numbers."  You might even win a prize!! (Musical Numbers game: Dog Songs music was played while they either danced or exercised.  When the music stopped, I held up either 2, 3, or 4 fingers & called out the number.  They had to join hands in a group that matched the number.  Those not in a group received a consolation prize (a Scooby lollypop).  Continued the game until only 2 left; they received bigger prizes. They also opened the next clue. Clue #9: For your next clue you need your feet (or your seat) to free Scooby & his gang (plus get a treat).  Keep your eyes peeled for your next clue!  (They got to pop balloons that had gum & a small picture Scooby or his gang inside.  One of the balloons had the last clue in it.) Clue #10: Your final clue! Decode the message to find what you are looking for.  (It had the code A=1, B=2, etc.)  It's under a (then it had lines with these numbers underneath 20 1  2 12 5).  They found the cake under the table & all oohed & aahed over it. After cake and ice cream, we did the store bought Scooby piñata.  I spread out the picnic blanket about 20 feet away from it & everyone had to wait there until their turn (so no one would get hurt).  It worked really well!
