Invitations

For the invitations, I found a picture of a princess and a castle on the internet. I used this as the background to the invitation. The wording was typed in a fancy font and said, "When you wish upon a star, your dreams will take you very far. Our princess has one wish to make, a wish that you'll come celebrate.  Please join us for Princess Jamisyn's Royal 4th Birthday Party... date, time, address." At the bottom, I typed Princess Attire so the kids would know to come dressed up as their favorite princess. We rolled up the invitations, secured them with a sticker so it looked like a royal invitation and we walked around the neighborhood to hand them out to her friends.

Decorations

I bought a long ream of red felt and lined our sidewalk up to our front door with it to make a "red carpet" for the girls to walk up.  To make sure it would stay down; I attached pink and purple balloons to paper weights and had them sitting on the outside edges of the carpet. Then I took 2 big purple megaphone-shaped foam sheets and used cutout foam flower letters to spell out "Princess Jamisyn's Castle" and glued these onto the foam sheets.  I then hot glued these to garden stakes and placed them into 2 large potted planters that I have on my front porch on either side of my front door.  I ran streamers down the front door so the girls had to walk through them to enter my house. I had the kitchen table set with a princess tablecloth and made large bows out of pink tulle and white ribbon for the backs of each of the chairs.  Each chair also had a balloon attached to the back (above the bows). My daughter's chair had a special princess balloon on it.  I also had made up pretty floral arrangements to put on the table and the island in my kitchen. I bought plastic wine cups and hand glued rhinestones around the cups and tied bows around the stems so each girl had her own special cup to drink out of.

Costumes

I bought plastic "glass slippers" at the party store and placed one at each girls place at the table. I printed their names on the computer, cut them out with fancy scissors and placed the names standing up in the glass slippers so these were their place cards for assigned seating at the table. I put glitter onto the table also and had pulled bows hanging from the chandelier over the table.

Food

Cake: My friend and I made an incredible castle cake that was gorgeous. I hand piped "When you wish upon a star your dreams come true.  Happy 4th Birthday Princess Jamisyn" onto the cake. I could not find a star candle so I strung star beads onto a thin candle and this was her wishing candle.  The girls got to drink their juice out of their special wine cups and were so excited to be able to take them home at the end of the party.  We also made cookie pops and gave those out with the goodie bags at the end of the party.

Party Favors

In the goodie bags, I placed 2 rings, a necklace and lip-gloss. Before the party ended, we had a princess piñata that the kids got to take turns pulling the strings to open.  This is always a hit too.

Games and Activities

For a craft, the girls made their own magic wands. I thought up this idea on my own.  I bought wooden dowels, pipe cleaners and beads. The girls strung the beads through the pipe cleaners and then the adults helped shape the pipe cleaner into a circle and wound it around the wooden dowel.  The adults then hot glued the pipe cleaner onto the wooden dowel. I pre-made bows out of tulle and cut up ribbons for the girls to help glue onto the dowels over where the pipe cleaners were glued so you couldn't see the hot glue.  They were so cute and my daughter still plays with hers!  For a game, my friend drew Ariel from The Little Mermaid and cut out crowns for me. The girls took turns playing "pin the crown on the princess."  We also played "pass the glass slipper" which is like hot potato. When the music stopped, whoever was holding the glass slipper was out. But when the girls were out, they got to pick a ring from my treasure box.  This was a big hit. When the games were done, we sat down at the table for cake and ice cream.

Miscellaneous

My neighbors and friends couldn't believe what I had done for this party. It was a lot of work, but the girls had so much fun and my daughter was so excited. Just to see the look on her face when she came into the kitchen the morning of the party was worth it because I had it all set up the night before.  She and her friends are still talking about the party and can't wait for her "tea party" birthday party next year.
