Location

Now it’s time to start planning the Ultimate Child Theme Party, but the first question to answer is where do you have it? There are so many options and picking the “right” one can be difficult for some people. Just remember, as long as your child’s family and friends are there, the location really doesn’t matter to them. So pick somewhere that is convenient and easy for you to setup and clean up in a minimal amount of time. Now keep reading for an Ultimate Sports Birthday Theme Parties Idea.

*Sports Field: You are going to have to make the decision on which sport is your child's favorite. It could be soccer, basketball, baseball, football, etc. After you have made that decision, it would be really cool if you designed that field in your back or frontyard. It won't be as difficult as you think and when you start reading the hints for decorations below, it will be a breeze. But before we get into the decorating mood, I would suggest checking out our selection of Sports Clip Art and Coloring Pages. You will find a ton of information and pictures that I know you won't be able to use them all!!! Now, what are the benefits of having a party at your home? You might be thinking NO WAY!!! But wait, first I know you won’t forget any crucial party items at your home (e.g. piñata bat). Second, that reservation won’t get screwed up…because you are already there! Finally, you know where everything is, how convenient. Now don’t get me wrong, you do run the risk of damage and such, so be sure to weigh the benefits and risks and pick what’s best for you and your child!

* A Day at the Park: An excellent Birthday Theme Parties Location is the local park. Now there are a lot of benefits of having the party outdoors...and I think the most obvious is the surroundings. You aren't at "your" home where something of "yours" could get broke. You also have more opportunity to really decorate the area how "you" want. But to get started on selecting the "Ultimate Park", begin by making a list of all the local parks/water parks in the area and write down the key features of each one. For example, how much area is available? is there a playground? tennis court? trash can availability? bathrooms? covered areas? capacity of park? etc. You don’t want to show up at an overcrowded park, with no playground or bathrooms and it starts to rain. Spend some time in selecting the right park and I guarantee your party will run a lot smoother. Don't worry, you'll still be able to use a lot of the decorating ideas from this site, so don't stop here...keep reading for more birthday theme parties ideas!

* "Away Game": I bet your thinking, what is an Away Game? Well, first it's not at your house and second someone else will be taking the responsibility for cleanup, etc...Now why would you want to do that? Well, one great thing about renting an establishment is they sometimes provide you with invitations, discounts on food, a cake, etc. Make sure you find a decent place that provides you with enough stuff to balance out the rental cost. Don’t be afraid to ask for food discounts and other items, you will be surprised on what they will offer, but only if you ask! Also, ask if you can bring your own decorations...

Invitations

Picking out or designing the Ultimate Sports invitation can either be a fun or challenging part of the party. It all depends on how much time you have, what type of planning you want to do and how much thought you put in to it. I want to help “you” create the Ultimate invitation that will represent your party theme perfectly and impress your party guests. How? Well, I have listed many birthday theme parties ideas to get your creativity juices flowing. Take these ideas, as is, or alter them to fit “your” taste. I am sure if you pick a birthday theme parties idea listed below then you will be able to create the Ultimate Party Invitation!!! Enjoy…

* Store/Internet Bought: If you are reading this idea, it might be because you don't have enough time to create an Ultimate Invitation. Or maybe you just like store bought invitations better. It doesn’t really matter because I have found a couple of great Sports birthday party idea party invitations you can choose from that will fit your party theme perfectly. Sports Invitation or Football Invitation.

* Invitation Help: As you start to create this Sports invitation masterpiece, don't forget to check out the Sports clip art for lots of different pictures. They will help you design the inside and out. Good Luck!

* Party Slogan: Before we get into the designing process, why don’t you pick out a party slogan? Pick something that your party could be developed around. Pick out a birthday party idea slogan to help you:

1. "Head's up for a kickin' good time "

2. "Hey now...You'll be an All-Star at "child's name" Party!"

3. "Slam Dunk Party!"

Before we get started, I have listed a few birthday theme parties ideas on the design of the invitation and then I will give you ideas on what to say inside.

* Sports Birthday Theme Parties Invitation #1: Have your child be involved with the invitation process by having them make a picture a football player on a football field with goals at both ends of the field and print your verse on vellum (attach the vellum to the picture with a royal blue grosgrain ribbon)

* Sports Birthday Theme Parties Invitation #2: Here is a great invitation that looks like a sporting event ticket. Have "VIP Pass" watermarked in the background and include the following party information: Event Date:, Event Time:, Location:[Your Last Name] Arena, Seat & Row:[insert your street and address].

* Sports Birthday Theme Parties Invitation #3: Create an "official sporting event" ticket on your computer complete with words like "Admit One", "Stadium" (instead of place), "Row" and "Seat", etc. Use some computer graphics of sports balls on the left side of the "ticket".  Have them color printed on glossy cardstock at a printing store, then cut them out.  After they are cut "perforate" the edge about 1 inch in (where it says void if detached). Ask a ticketmaster place for envelopes they give their tickets out in for added effect. Mail the tickets in the official ticket envelopes.

* Pick a birthday theme parties verse to include in your party invitations *

"child's name" on the "age" and he's ready to play!
So come cheer him on in a special way.
Do you like Clemson, the Skyhawks, UT?
Auburn , Georgia , or USC?
Then wear your colors and come have some fun!
We'll play some ball so come ready to run!
"child's name" "age" Birthday Party, "date", "place".
Then list yourself as the head coach and ask for penalties to be called in for regrets.

Gates Open: 12 pm
Row#, Seat#, Admit One (on both sections),
and number both sections of the ticket.
Also add Food & Refreshments, Games, Crafts, Swimming.

** Don't forget to add the RSVP, location, time, date, and other pertinent party information on the invitation. **

Decorations

Picking out, setting up and fine tuning the decorations can be a long tedious process. But, there is hope, because with a little planning and creativity, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of the party. I have compiled a lot of birthday theme parties ideas that start with the outside decorations and finishes with the inside decorations. You can use all, some or none of the ideas, but no matter which kid theme party ideas you choose, they will help turn your party location into the Ultimate Party Location.

First, let's start with the outdoor decorations:

Attach a bouquet of helium filled balloons to a light post or mailbox so there will be no mistaking where the fun will be that day!

Put a sign out front of your house that says, "This way to the Sports Arena!"

Line a walkway with these royal blue Shimmer Stars, writing each guest’s name on a star.  Tape the stars with masking or duct tape to the sidewalk, walkway or exterior walls leading to the site of the party.  The stars can also be used on the food table and as place cards.

Here is an easy way to make a great birthday banner. Use a white vinyl shower liner and 10" black vinyl letters (you can purchase these from an officer supply store). On the banner you can write something like, Sports Arena or Sporting Event. You can also let your children or guests draw Sport pictures all over it.

Now, let’s move inside the party location and decorate…

Let’s start with the simple decorating. Tie helium balloons of different shades of brown, black, green, blue, etc. in clusters of 3 or 5 to the back of chairs or tucked into corners. Don't forget to tie a bunch of balloons to the birthday child’s chair. If you choose not to use helium, tie balloons to varying lengths of curling ribbon, and hang them from the ceiling or from light fixtures throughout the house.

Here are a few great Ultimate Latex balloons for your party: Baseball Mylar Balloon, Basketball Mylar Balloon, Football Mylar Balloon or Soccer Mylar Balloon.

Let's start with a simple picture backdrop. Fill up a basket full of all different kinds of sporting equipment. Take a picture of each child sitting next to the basket. This will also make a great picture for the Thank You Cards.

Next, let’s move on to another simple, yet familiar decorating item, Streamers. Streamers offer an economical way to splash lots of color around the site of the party. Create a fun and colorful effect by draping rainbow colored metallic streamers from the center of the ceiling to the walls on each side of the room. The streamers can be twisted after they are anchored to a ceiling wall or table for a more dimensional look. Two different colored streamers can be placed back to back and twisted for a unique look. After you are done, it should look like a spiral rainbow above the room! They also look terrific hanging from doorframes or cascading vertically down walls. Streamers are an excellent Sports Birthday Theme Parties Idea.

Make collages of different Sports characters and games to hang around the party area. Check out our Free Clipart Section for ideas.

Setup up your child's favorite sports field at the party location. Make sure to include cones, goals or whatever else the sport calls for.

Place picnic tables on both sides of the field to represent the home and visiting teams.

Introduce each child by having them run onto your "field" and through adding machine tape while you read their height, number, etc, through a megaphone.

Check out these inflatable sports balls that can be used either as a decoration or for an activity.

I hope you can find a Sports Birthday Theme Parties Idea you can use for your Ultimate Party!

Ice Breaker Activities

Trying to keep the guests attention until the party starts isn't an easy task. But with these birthday theme parties ideas listed below you won't have any problems!

Let those who’ve arrived early play with Bubbles while they wait for the other guests to arrive.

Don’t forget to check out the great collection of coloring pages I have compiled. A coloring activity is a great way to keep the children occupied until the party starts. Plus, you can send their pictures home in their goody bag.

A simple game of kick, kick, goal (i.e. duck, duck, goose) is a great ice breaker activity. You can keep adding children to the circle as they arrive. I have yet to find a child who doesn't like this game, it’s a classic!!!

Freeze Dance is another great game to get kids acquainted. The game doesn't require a certain number of kids, so they can join in as they arrive. Play Sports related music as the kids dance. If you stop the music, they must freeze. If they don’t freeze, they are out. The game restarts after all the children have been eliminated except one. Kids love to dance and play games, which makes this an Ultimate Sport Birthday Theme Parties Idea.

Have the children decorate a large birthday banner in honor of your child that says, “Happy Birthday, Name”. You can get a large roll of paper from a store like Target. Give the children crayons, stickers, and other such items to use.

Set out as many Sports toys as your child has. This way the children could have a choice between playing with toys or doing an activity.

Have them decorate their very own Soccer Ball.

Have an sports shows playing on your TV as the guests are arriving. This will definitely keep them entertained until all the guests have arrived.

Food

Picking out the perfect food, refreshments, treats and cake should be a fun experience. Think of clever names for each item that relates back to the Sports Theme. Pick out a birthday theme parties idea or two to get started:

Think about having a "tail-gate" party while the food is being cooked and served.

Sports Birthday Theme Parties Food:

* 6 foot sub sandwich
* Salad
* Chips & Dip
* Cracker Jacks
* Popcorn
* Pretzels
* Hot Dogs
* Hamburgers
* Cotton Candy
* Pizza

Sports Birthday Theme Parties Refreshments:

* Bottled Water
* Bottled Tea
* Purchase Ball shaped straw cups for the kids to use and take home
* You can serve the drinks that children love, such as, Capri Suns, Kool-Aid Koolers, Kool-Aid Jammers, boxed juice, etc.

Sports Birthday Theme Parties Cake:

Deciding on whether you are going to make or buy the Ultimate cake is a tough decision. It mainly depends on how much time you have and how many guests are coming. I would suggest for a smaller party, you try and make that Ultimate cake. But if there is going to be a large number of guests, maybe a large cake made by the baker would be the best decision. It’s up to you, but here is a Sports Birthday Theme Parties Idea for making an Ultimate Sports cake.

You can purchase Wilton's ball cake pan to make your own baseball, basketball, soccer or any other ball.

Click on these Ultimate Cakes for the directions on how to make them.
