Ice Breaker Activities

When they arrived, I had a craft set up.  I had found a picture of a ballerina on the internet.  I traced it onto white poster board, and cut it out, and cut out two finger sized holes at the bottom of the tutu.  The ballerina figure stopped at the tutu. The girls decorated the ballerinas with crayons and glitter. They put their fingers in the holes as the "legs" of the ballerina for a finger puppet.

Party Favors

The party favor was a ballerina bag, (they had their doll and puppet) Inside was a bendable ballerina from Oriental trading and a craft from Oriental trading of a foam ballerina picture frame. I was considering doing that at the party, but it was better to send it home with the girls so they could spread out all the pieces and glue together at home.

Present

Then, I got out a parachute that I had borrowed from the library.  The girls had fun doing their own thing, so I let them. Then we sat on the parachute and opened presents while we waited for Moms to pick up their girls.

Games and Activities

When everyone arrived, they were all called to sit in a circle for the ballet "lesson”. My friend, who teaches ballet, led the girls in some dances. They got wands and tiaras and danced like princesses. They did a happy birthday dance, danced like dolls, and other story related dances. Very cute! They also did an obstacle course jumping through hula hoops and hopping like frogs.  When the ballerina was finished, I had the girls sit in a circle for a game, called "Pass the present.  I fount these adorable soft ballerina dolls at the Dollar store.  I wrapped them up in tissue paper, one inside another to form a ball.  We passed the ball around the circle, and when the music stopped, if you had the ball, you were "out". But when you were out, you got to unwrap the present and get a doll and go to the dessert table. We continued until everyone received a doll, and was sitting at the dessert table.
